Do programs vary from school to school?
Yes, very much so! While the state of Illinois mandates a general curriculum, it can vary greatly from school to school. For example, some schools will focus on the application of color but not on color theory and formulation... both of which are vital to your career. This is why it is important to choose a school that offers greater one on one teaching for students.
Should I check out the schools I am interested in and ask to sit in on classes?
Absolutely! The only way to get the true feel of a school and determine if it’s a good fit for you is to spend time in the school's environment.
A school should be willing to let you have the experience of what it will be like attending their facility. It also gives you an opportunity to talk to current students and get their feelings about attending the school. Be leery of any school that wants you to sign up blindly.
At Eric Alexander University, we encourage prospective students to come and sit in a few classes as well as on our clinic floor prior to enrolling.

Is "Accreditation" important?
Accreditation is one of the most misunderstood terms regarding cosmetology schools. Accreditation has nothing to do with the quality of education or making it a better school. Schools are licensed and monitored by the Illinois Dept. of Professional Regulation. Accreditation is not affiliated with the State of Illinois. It is a third party company that is used to allow a school to offer student loans (often at high interest rates). We have opted not to participate in these and we offer our own student loans at 0% interest which we feel is a more beneficial option for most students.
